Capital Campaigns
The Society’s capital campaign, Embrace.Preserve.Cherish. started in 2017 and has raised over $650,000 through 2023. These funds have made a number of major renovations at the Museum at Harsha House, Train Depot and other projects possible. Many thanks to our donors and grantors!
Funds were set up at the Charlevoix County Community Foundation to manage our capital gifts and funds. The purpose of these funds is preservation and long-term care of the Museum at Harsha House, Train Depot, and South Pier Lighthouse, as well as preservation and protection of the Society’s collections. This includes objects and documents, as well as a vast collection of photographs. Digitizing and cataloguing these is an important part of preservation.

Goals for 2026/2027:
- Various projects at the Train Depot and Heritage Garden, including Signal Tower restoration
- Improved lighting in the Museum at Harsha House
- Curator Work Table and Archival Materials for collections storage, in particular the Sentinel newspaper acquisition
- Permanent storage facility or space off-site for collections
- Long-term goals:
- $100,000 to support preservation at the Museum
- Collections Management System
- Fire-resistant Storage Vault, to be constructed as an addition to the Museum at Harsha House
- $100,000 to support preservation at the Museum
